Properties of coatings
KOFATERM products, regardless of their application, are divided into two groups: paints and pastes.
Paints
Paints
Paints allow for easy application, the same as traditional water-based (emulsion) dispersion paints, using a brush, roller, or spray. When creating KOFATERM PAINT coatings, the paint should be applied 2-3 times so that the final coating thickness is 0.4-0.5 mm (0.015-0.019 inches). This thickness is essential to achieve maximum thermal reflective properties and to ensure the product’s full functionality.

Paints are the easiest, simplest, and most widespread way of using KOFATERM products. They are characterized by the most desired properties such as great leveling, superior coverage, no drip, resistance to sedimentation during storage and transportation. Depending on the needs, the paint can be modified to some extent by adjusting its viscosity, flowability, and allowing for extension of its “open container time” by adding a small amount of water (no more than 5 volume portions of water per 100 volume portions of paint).
KOFATERM PAINT products have a precisely composed, proprietary formula, and except for the aforementioned water no other additives should be ever introduced to the paint. High adherence properties ensure excellent adhesion to any degreased, dusted, and chemically inactive substrate. The exceptions are bituminous surfaces and never-before-painted wall surfaces, which require their surface to be primed with a dedicated KOFARB PRIMER before painting with KOFATERM products. Our paints are resistant to temperatures ranging from -50°C to +160°C (-58°F to +320°F).
Pastes
Pastes
KOFATERM PASTE are water-based dispersion pastes and, due to their high viscosity (compact consistency), they require a different application than more liquid paints. The paste can be applied easily with a trowel for smoothing gypsum walls, a roller for structural plasters, and texture sprayers. When applied properly the finished layer will be 0.8-1.2 mm (0.03-0.05 inches) thick and will be achieved in a single application without the need for additional touch-ups. This thickness is essential to achieve maximum thermal reflective and thermal insulation properties and to ensure the product’s full functionality and efficiency.

In addition to thermal reflective properties, similar to those of KOFATERM PAINT, coatings made from these pastes have other, very important features that make them more versatile. Our pastes are characterized by higher elasticity which eliminates persistent formulation of micro-cracks on surfaces of walls and roofs and (as in the case of KOFATERM ROOF PASTE) they perfectly seal the roof surface. Additional features include acoustic damping and the ability to create decorative structures including textures of structural plasters. The use of KOFATERM PASTE significantly increases the thermal resistance of the partition and improves its thermal insulation properties. Similar to our paints, pastes can be modified to some extent by adjusting their viscosity, flowability, and allowing for extension of their “open container time” by adding a small amount of water (no more than 5 volume portions of water per 100 volume portions of paste).

The exceptions are bituminous surfaces, which require the application of BITUM PRIMER and previously unpainted walls, or when there is uncertainty regarding the durability of the old coating where UNIVERSAL PRIMER will be used.Our pastes are resistant to temperatures ranging from -50°C to +160°C (-58°F to +320°F).
